Commercial vehicle insurance

Keep up the momentum with comprehensive commercial vehicle insurance – arranged by us and tailored to you.

Cover we can arrange

Theft or accidental damage

Commercial vehicle insurance can help cover flow-on costs after a business vehicle is stolen. If an accident happens, it can help cover damage to the vehicle or to third-party property.

New vehicle replacement

Repairing a vehicle is costly. But replacing it is another story. We can help cover the cost of a brand-new vehicle – of the same make and model – if yours goes down for the count.

Vehicle hire

If your business vehicle is rendered undriveable while en route to an important event, there’s no need to worry. We can help cover the cost of a replacement hire car.

Commercial fleet cover

Do you have a fleet of business vehicles at your disposal? We can arrange to cover 15 or more cars under one policy with commercial fleet insurance. Talk to a Marsh advisor for details.

Accident management for fleets

Vehicle accidents are a prevalent concern – in work and life in general. Access accident management services when we arrange your commercial vehicle policy.

Up to $50 million legal liability

Generally speaking, a standard commercial vehicle policy provides cover for up to $50 million in legal liability. Feel more at ease on the road with a financial cushion beneath you.

Frequently asked questions

The cost of your business vehicle insurance will depend on a few factors. These include:

  • Your vehicle’s make and model

  • The nature of your business

  • Your commercial vehicle claims history

  • The coverage provided.

You can discuss your situation and circumstances with one of our brokers to work out how much you’ll pay.

Personal car insurance covers your private vehicle only – for personal use. Some insurers might not cover a personal car insurance claim for an accident that happened while the car was being used for work – such as a delivery.

Business vehicle insurance is designed specifically for vehicles (cars, vans, utes, motorcycles etc) used for commercial purposes. These policies also often have extra benefits that are tailored to the risk needs of commercial drivers, such as windscreen replacement inclusions and hire car extensions.

And not all car insurance covers are the same, so it pays to speak to an expert before making a purchase.

Business vehicle insurance and commercial vehicle insurance are interchangeable terms.

They both refer to the same policy: one that helps cover the costs of theft, damage and accidents to vehicles being used for work purposes.

An insurer will, in most cases, cover a driver for reasonable personal use. Just be sure to read your product disclosure statement before you head out on the road.

You should also speak to your insurance broker to confirm the full inclusions and exclusions of your policy.

In this case, the right policy for you depends on the weight of your vehicles.

You can insure a fleet of light to mid-weight vehicles under a commercial fleet policy. But trucks and large vans will need to be insured under a truck and heavy motor vehicle policy.

The answer will vary from insurer to insurer. Your policy may look different depending on who provides it – and inclusions may only apply to certain types of vehicles.

Generally speaking, a typical commercial vehicle policy can cover:

  • Loss or damage after an insured event – such as fire, hail, storms, theft and malicious damage
  • Vehicle replacement

  • Accidental damage to a third party’s property

  • Costs of a hire car following theft, damage or emergencies

  • Broken windscreens or window glass

  • Towing.

Read your product disclosure statement for a full list of your inclusions – and speak to a Marsh advisor for guidance.

This answer will vary from insurer to insurer. Your policy may look different depending on who provides it – and exclusions may only apply to certain types of vehicles.

Generally speaking, a typical commercial motor insurance policy can’t cover:

  • Pre-existing damage
  • Inebriated or impaired drivers
  • Failure to disclose information
  • Legal liability claims you’re already covered for – such as from compensation schemes, funds and compulsory or statutory insurance.

Insurers also cannot cover you if you haven’t disclosed key information – such as past claims or driving history.

Our brokers can arrange cover for fleets of 15 vehicles or more.

All fleet and commercial motor products will include coverage for third-party property damage and bodily injury (legal liability).

However, our brokers can arrange insurance tailored to your desired limits and requirements.

Insurers are required to publicly disclose who products are appropriate for and any conditions for distributing these. A target market determination (TMD) document outlines this information.
